What we are building to
We build this site to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, at level AA. That is the standard United States courts and the Department of Justice have settled on, and it is the one we measure ourselves against.
We are not claiming to have finished. This page says what we have done, what we know is not right yet, and how to tell us when something fails you.
What is in place today
Every page can be used with a keyboard alone, and the element you are on is always visibly marked rather than left to a browser default that some themes hide.
Every photograph that carries meaning has a written description, and our product photography is described by what is actually in the picture rather than by repeating the caption beside it. Images that are purely decorative are marked as decorative, so a screen reader passes over them instead of reading out a filename.
Colour is never the only thing carrying a meaning. Where the site marks a phrase, it marks it with a background and a weight rather than a hue alone, and body text is set against its background at a contrast ratio that meets the standard.
The site respects your system setting for reduced motion. It has a fair amount of movement in it, including the jars that run across the top of every page and the headline that changes on the home page. If you have asked your computer for less motion, all of it stops.
Headings run in order, forms label every field, and an error tells you which field it is about and what to do rather than only that something went wrong.
Where we know it falls short
We would rather list these than let you find them.
The jars that run across the top of the page move on their own. They stop when you ask for reduced motion, but there is no button on the page itself to stop them, and that is a gap we intend to close.
The site sets an ivory background and dark text, and it does not currently offer a dark version. If your system is set to dark, this site will still be light.
We have tested with keyboard navigation and with automated checks. We have not yet had the site tested by a professional accessibility auditor or by a panel of people who use screen readers daily, which is the only kind of testing that finds what automated checks miss. That is the next thing we intend to do.
Telling us something is wrong
If any part of this site stops you doing something, please write to us at noreenfoods@gmail.com and tell us what happened.
It helps to know what page you were on, what you were trying to do, and what you were using, including any assistive technology. Please do not feel you need to diagnose it for us. "The wholesale form would not let me get to the submit button with a keyboard" is a genuinely useful report.
We aim to reply within five working days. If a barrier is stopping you reaching us or buying our food, tell us what you were trying to do and we will do it with you in the meantime rather than making you wait for a fix.
